Which wine is healthier: white or red
High-quality dry wine is useful – it is a well-known fact. This is well known to the inhabitants of southern Europe: a glass of wine is an indispensable companion to the most ordinary dinner in France, Italy, and Spain. But what kind of wine will be more useful: white or red – there is a debate.
To clarify this issue, you need to identify the difference between red and white wines.
Difference – in manufacturing technology
Many believe that the main difference between white wine and red wine is in grapes: red is made from red varieties, white is from white ones. Partly the way it is. Indeed, only red and blue varieties are used to make red wines. But white wine can be produced from both white and red grapes. How can this be?
It’s all about the different production technology.
How to get wine? Simplified it looks like this. First, the berries are crushed, then placed in containers, where the fermentation process takes place, more precisely, fermentation.
Then the red wine is poured into barrels and kept in them for a year and a half, and the white is bottled.
However, exposure is not the main difference in wine making technology. The main point: for the manufacture of red wines, the berries are fermented with pulp: peel, bones and even sprigs, and then pressed and removed. In the manufacture of white wines, the berries are first pressed and the mash is harvested before fermentation.
It is the rind and the bones that give a beautiful color and that unique tart taste to red wines.
What is rich in wine?
Manufacturing technology determines the composition of nutrients in different wines.
Both contain wine:
vitamins – C, B groups (B1, B2 – riboflavin, B3 – niacin, B6, B12), K;
flavonoids (cahetin, resveratrol);
trace elements – 24 substances (iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, etc.);
organic acids (tartaric, malic, lactic);
phenolic compounds (tannins, etc.).
Vitamin C, niacin and iron in red wine are more than two times more than white, and riboflavin is three times more. And tannins red wine is much richer.
But white wine is lower in calories.
As for antioxidants, red wine turned out to be richer, but those substances that are contained in white are smaller in size, therefore, they work more efficiently.
Red wine – good
It is determined by the content of a significant amount of iron, vitamins, antioxidants. In addition, the wine is rich in resveratrol – a bioflavonoid with anti-cancer properties.
Red wine, consumed in small quantities:
prevents the development of cancer by resveratrol, which protects cells from the damaging effects of UV irradiation;
slows down the aging process due to the antioxidant properties of flavonoids;
removes “bad” (LDL) cholesterol from the body and contributes to an increase in the content of “good” (HDL), thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including strokes and heart attacks;
prevents blood clots from forming through blood thinning, which is facilitated by resveratrol;
increases the level of iron in the blood, preventing the development of anemia.
Red wine is recommended for general recovery, strengthening of the heart and blood vessels, with anemia and “thick” blood.
White wine – good
About white wine, its healing properties know less. But it has a number of valuable qualities:
like red, it prolongs the youth of the cells due to antioxidants, and from white wine they are better absorbed;
stimulates the function of the endocrine glands;
normalizes metabolism due to organic acids;
perfectly quenches thirst and increases appetite;
improves the functioning of the pulmonary system;
removes urates from the joints (uric acid salts);
contributes to the process of digestion and better digestion of food due to the normalization of acidity
It has a beneficial effect on cerebral vessels, improves mental activity, reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease;
improves the functioning of the heart and blood vessels;
has an antimicrobial effect.
White wine will be useful for those suffering from gastrointestinal pathologies, lung diseases, those who have impaired metabolism, have memory problems. In addition, the white wine also has general healing properties.
What is rose wine?
There is another type of dry wine – pink. Sometimes they mistakenly think that rose wine is obtained by mixing red with white. In fact, the present rose wine is made from red berries by a special technology: pulp is left in the juice for a short time, so that it gets a pink color.
That is why rosé wine in its healing properties is a kind of compromise between white and red.
How much wine can you drink without harm to health?
Every medicine in large doses turns into poison. And wine is no exception. Excessive addiction even to the most useful dry grape wine can result in various diseases and, as a result, alcoholism. To avoid this, you must comply with the measure. Which one?
This is what the WHO experts say about this:
You can consume a maximum of two glasses of 150 ml of wine with a strength of 12% five days a week.
