"An ancient scroll recommends deer antler for 52 different diseases. Today, it has been
scientifically proven to strengthen muscle contractions, improve nerve impulses, regulate
blood pressure, and treat arthritis."
Some of the naturally occurring nutrients in antler velvet are glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, prostaglandins, glycosaminoglycans, nucopoly-saccharides, and natural insulin-like Growth Factor-1 or IGF-1, which has been shown to improve muscular development without affecting human growth hormone levels. It also contains a variety of complex elements, including amino acids, fats, protein, and numerous electrolytes: phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, sodium, silicon, chlorine, iron, zinc and copper. When consumed by humans, the nutrients contained in antler velvet have been reported to increase mental and physical stamina, improve circulation and nerve impulses, effect metabolism, stress-related symptoms, arthritic pain and rheumatism, menstrual and menopausal disorders, digestion and constipation, asthma, skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, anemia, vitality and well being, blood pressure, and inflammation and recovery from injuries.
Antler velvet is referenced in traditional Chinese medicine and Western Europe going back 2,000 years. In Korea and Japan it is regularly used to increase blood production in cases of anemia; in support of the immune system; for infertility in women and impotence in men; to improve blood circulation in association with the heart; to improve muscle tone and glandular function; to increase lung efficiency; and to increase muscular strength and nerve function.
Studies at Invermay Research Center in Otago, New Zealand indicate that antler extracts improve cell growth and have anti-tumor and anti-viral properties. In 1988, Japanese scientists published a report indicating that subjects given antler velvet had a marked increase in the number of blood components thought to be related to the immune system. In 1989, a Russian researcher, Dr. Ivan Kinia, co-authored several studies which showed one of the bioactive substances in antler velvet to be the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins important to the reduction of inflammation in athletes and arthritis sufferers. Alex Duarte, Ph.D. submitted an article to The Life Extension Foundation in 1994 reporting on the 12-year research of Dr. Arcady in which the performances of athletes were dramatically improved after using antler velvet. Numerous studies show that glucosomine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate reverse atherosclerosis and improve circulation, and a six year study shows that chondroitin sulfate A reduces the incidence of fatal heart attacks and strokes.
Antlers are the only body appendage in advanced mammals that can regenerate itself. No other creature on earth has the ability to grow a structure of this magnitude, shed it, and grow a new set year after year. This ability for regeneration is what some experts believe account for its potent effect.
